Bangkokians give governor Chadchart high marks: poll

A majority of Bangkok residents are satisfied with the performance of Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt after three and a half years in office, an opinion survey by the National Institute of Development Administration shows.
The poll, conducted from Nov 25 to Dec 2, sampled 2,000 eligible voters aged 18 and above across all 50 districts of the capital. Respondents were asked to evaluate the governor’s work across 17 key policy areas.
High approval in public spaces, pavements, cleanliness, flood management
Bangkok residents gave the governor consistently strong ratings in most core urban-management areas:
Green spaces & public parks: 37.20% “very good”, 38.75% “quite good”
Pavement and street-vendor management: 36.70% “very good”, 40.70% “quite good”
Cleanliness, waste, air pollution and wastewater: 32.60% “very good”, 40.80% “quite good”
Road and alley improvements: 32.20% “very good”, 40.85% “quite good”
Crime prevention & safety (lighting, CCTV): 32.15% “very good”, 39.15% “quite good”
Tourism promotion: 28.00% “very good”, 39.50% “quite good”
Flood mitigation: 23.90% “very good”, 40.20% “quite good”
Public service delivery by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) offices also earned positive reviews, with 40.25% “quite good” and 21.95% “very good”.
Mixed results in transport, public health, and homeless management
Opinions were more divided on some policy areas:
Public transport (rail and boats): 40.10% “quite good”, 21.80% “very good”, while 17.15% said “not very good”
Public health: 38.60% “quite good”, but only 20.95% “very good”
Management of protests: 40.25% “quite good”, though 16.40% saw it as “not very good”
Homelessness and begging: 38.80% “quite good”, 20.35% “very good”, while 11.00% rated it “very poor”
Two clear weak points: corruption and cost of living
The governor received his lowest ratings in the areas voters view as most difficult nationally:
Tackling of corruption in BMA agencies:
25.05% “quite good”
23.50% “not very good”
22.95% “very poor”
Handling of cost of living:
33.40% “not very good”
20.20% “very poor”
Only 8.40% said “very good”
Overall satisfaction remains strong
When asked about their overall satisfaction with Chadchart’s performance:
46.55% said they were “quite satisfied”
31.85% said they were “very satisfied”
14.70% said they were “not very satisfied”
6.70% were “not satisfied at all”
Only 0.20% chose not to answer.
