Building collapses in North Delhi, few residents, 2 children passing by feared buried under rubble

A three-storey building has collapsed in the Sabzi Mandi area of North Delhi, trapping several people, including children, under the debris. CM Arvind Kejriwal has said he is monitoring the situation.

Five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot for rescue and relief operations. The rescue operations are currently underway.

So far one elderly person has been rescued from the rubble. There were 4-5 people in the building who may still be buried and rescue efforts are on.

Two children who were passing by the building were also buried under the rubble while a car was also hit by the collapse. Eyewitnesses said when the building collapsed in the North Delhi area, a few adjacent buildings shook and the power went out.

A call was received from the Sabzi Mandi area reporting the building collapse incident around 11.50 am. The building is situated opposite Robin Cinema near Malka Ganj in Delhi.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has said, “The building collapse incident in Sabzi Mandi area is extremely sad. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations. I myself am monitoring the situation.”

Meanwhile, an NDRF team has also reached the spot in Sabzi Mandi area of North Delhi to aid the rescue efforts.

NS Bundela, Delhi Joint CP, has said, “Teams of local police, MCD, NDRF among others are present to undertake rescue operation. We need time to assess the number of people stuck under debris. One person has been rescued so far. He has sustained head injuries and has been sent to the hospital.”
