Empty liquor bottles found in Bihar Assembly premises, Tejashwi Yadav demands CM’s resignation

Just a day after NDA legislators led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took a pledge in favour of a complete prohibition of alcohol in the state, several empty bottles of liquor were found in Bihar assembly premises on Tuesday.

Condemning the incident, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to resign and demanded the implementation of complete ban on liquor in the state.

Tejashwi Yadav said, “It is a serious matter, liquor bottles are being found across the state. There should be a complete ban on liquor.”

Reacting to the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, “It is a very serious matter. It is important to conduct an investigation. We can ask the Chief Secretary and DGP to investigate the matter if the speaker allows.”

The empty liquor bottles were found just a day after legislators of all four constituents of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar raised their hands in favour of Nitish Kumar’s decision of liquor ban. They had also unanimously resolved to support the state government’s move to strictly enforce total prohibition on liquor across the state.

On the opening day of the Assembly session, the Opposition criticised the Nitish Kumar government for “failing” to control the liquor mafia in the state.

Terming the liquor ban a mere “eyewash,” Tejashwi Yadav said, “Nitish Kumar’s police are just arresting liquor consumers while the liquor mafias who are the real culprits are roaming scot-free. Only poor villagers are either dying or getting arrested,” he said.

The five-day winter session of the Bihar legislature, which began on Monday, will continue till December 3.
