Former PM Manmohan Singh admitted to AIIMS’ cardio-thoracic ward

Former prime minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He is being kept under observation at the cardio-thoracic ward.

Manmohan Singh was taken to AIIMS in Delhi at 8:45 pm on Sunday night after he complained of chest congestion. According to sources, a team of doctors is currently attending to the former PM. Former PM Manmohan Singh is under the care of Dr Nitish Naik, a professor of cardiology at AIIMS-Delhi.

A source close to the former prime minister said, “All his parameters are fine. He is under observation at the AIIMS,” adding that he was taken to the hospital after he complained of “uneasiness”.

Aged 87, Dr Manmohan Singh underwent successful coronary bypass surgery at AIIMS in Delhi in 2009.

Dr Manmohan Singh first joined the Government of India as Economic Advisor in the Commerce Ministry in 1971. He later served as the Finance Minister of India from 1991 to 1996 and went on to become India’s fourteenth Prime Minister in 2004. At present, he is a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath sent out a tweet wishing Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also sent out a tweet on Sunday night, wishing Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his concerns in a tweet saying, “I am concerned to learn of the ill health of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. I pray for his speedy recovery.”

“Deeply concerned about Dr Manmohan Singh ji’s health. Hope he makes a full recovery soon. All of India is praying for our former PM,” tweeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

A minister in the Maharashtra government, Aditya Thackeray also sent out a tweet wishing Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery.

In a tweet, MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor said, “Concerned by reports that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was admitted to AIIMS In Delhi, but relieved he is not in the ICU & is in good hands. Wishing him a speedy & complete recovery.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter on Sunday night, saying, “Sorry to hear about Dr Manmohan Singh being admitted to hospital. I hope he recovers & is back home with his family soon. His wise counsel & guidance are much needed during this time of crisis.”

“My sincere prayers for the speedy recovery of #ManmohanSingh ji, the humble, intelligent, scholar, true gentleman and one of the best PM,” said a tweet sent out by former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Other politicians who sent out tweets wishing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery are Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Satav, KPCC President DK Shivakumar, Maharashtra Revenue Minister and MCC President Balasaheb Thorat, and MP from Eranakulam in Kerala, Hibi Eden.

MP from Jalandhar in Punjab, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, former deputy CM of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav, former Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav also wished the former prime minister the best of health. Congress leaders from Delhi, Ajay Maken and Alka Lamba also wished Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery in a tweet on Sunday along with AICC General Secretary Avinash Pande, Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, and Rajasthan Minister Pratap Khachariyawas.
