Police called to gun being fired as one person suffers serious injuries

Officers were called to Higher Road in Urmston last night, Friday, January 16 to reports of “a firearms discharge”.

Emergency services treated one person at the scene, who suffered “serious injuries”.

As of around 11.15pm yesterday, the road remained closed off.

Now, police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Chief Inspector Mark Allinson, Force Critical Incident Manager, said: “At around 8:42pm (Friday 16 January), we were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Higher Road, Urmston.

“Emergency services have treated one casualty at the scene with serious injuries.

“We have deployed extra patrols around the local area while we continue our enquiries.”

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation is asked to contact GMP on 101 quoting log 3132 of 16/01/2026.
