Senior AIIMS doctor dies due to Covid-19

A 78-year-old veteran pulmonologist of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) died due to Covid-19 in New Delhi on Saturday.

The deceased, Dr Jitendra Nath Pande, was director and professor of Pulmonology Department at the premier medical institution. He had been treating Covid-19 infected patients since the pandemic began.

AIIMS medical superintendent office confirmed his death. His wife is also under observation of expert doctors. Sources said that she is also a Covid-19 infected patient.

The contribution of Dr Pande in the making of AIIMS Delhi was huge. He was the architect of making Pulmonology Department here and served as its HOD for several years. The current director of AIIMS Dr Randeep Guleria is one of his students at this institution.

Following his demise, several senior doctors have tweeted condoling the senior doctor’s demise. Dr Sangita Reddy, a senior Delhi doctor, confirmed that Dr Pande’s death was caused due to Covid-19. She said the disease has claimed its most illustrious victim.
