Tamil Nadu rains: Schools, colleges to remain shut on Monday as IMD predicts heavy rains

All schools in Puducherry will remain closed on Monday due to heavy rains in the region. In Tamil Nadu, the Madras University and Anna University have postponed all exams that were scheduled on Monday, due to incessant rains in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu on Monday.

On Sunday, six fishing boats were damaged after they hit the shore in the coastal area of Mandapam in Tamil Nadu.

The state disaster management authority has declared holiday in schools and colleges in Tiruvallur, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram. Holiday has also been declared for schools in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Chennai.

On Saunday, waterlogging was witnessed in many parts of Rameswaram as it continues to receive heavy rains for the past two days.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Devi, a resident of Rameswaram, said: “There has been continuous rainfall in the area, because of which the residential areas are flooded. There is no help from the administration. We are living on the roads.”

Another resident said the water has started entering his house.

“After continuous rainfall for the last couple of days, the water has entered our houses. I cannot even go inside my own house. We are urging the administration to help us out in this situation,” he said.
