At least two people were killed and eleven injured Saturday in a firecracker explosion that took place near a village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
ANI is reporting a death toll of three.
“Two people were killed and 11 injured in the explosion,” Tarn Taran SSP Dhruv Dahiya said.
The blast occurred during a nagar kirtan — a religious procession — near Pahu village, Tarn Taran, when firecracker sparks fell on a tractor trolley carrying more crackers.
A video shot at the blast site showed the vehicle standing on a road strewn with paper, and a pool of blood near the mortal remains of a victim, covered with cloth.
Parts of the tractor trolley were blown clean off the vehicle.
Ashok Gehlot, chief minister of neighbouring Rajasthan, said he was deeply saddened by the deaths and offered his condolences to the bereaved families.
