Trouble mounts for Maharashtra opposition, senior NCP leader joins BJP with 48 others

Senior NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Ganesh Naik on Wednesday joined BJP in presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis and 48 corporators of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation was the longest and strongest fort held by the NCP. But with Ganesh Naik joining BJP, the NCP seems to have lost the civic body.

Ganesh Naik’s departure from the NCP was expected as his son Sanjeev Naik had switched sides a few days ago.

Ganesh Naik joined BJP at a mega event in presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis who welcomed his and his supporters into the party fold.

Talking to media at the event, Ganesh Naik heaped praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“It is a new inning for Navi Mumbai and me. There have been many prime ministers of our country, but the one making country proud and powerful in foreign countries is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has created a respected atmosphere for NRIs and a sense of respect amongst them in foreign countries.”

The former NCP minister also hailed the BJP government for abrogating Article 370.

He also praised Devendra Fadnavis government for the development work undertaken in the past five years.

“Since past five years, Devendra Fadnavis has done development, provided resources and facilities going beyond caste and religion lines,” Ganesh Naik said.

Justifying Naik’s move, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said that the ex-NCP leader joined the party at his own will and not under any threats.

“BJP is a party which gives respect to each and every member. It is not like that we are threatening people or luring them with some offers or threats,” Chandrakant Patil said, adding that there was no Naik did not have any threat from ED or any another probe agency which might have motivated his decision.

Rumours regarding Ganesh Naik’s impending departure had been doing rounds since his son Sandeep Naik joined BJP a month ago.

Ganesh naik was expected to join the party with 50 corporators, but two backed out, reducing the number to 48.

CM Devendra Fadnavis said that several opposition leaders are joining the BJP because of PM Narendra Modi

“The reason behind so many people joining the party is because the country is successful and prosperous today and that is only because of one person – PM Narendra Modi. Everyone wants to join this yagya to make our country more respected and successful,” CM Devendra Fadnavis said.

The chief minister also hit out at parties which accused the BJP of organising a ‘mass admission’, “I say that people should think why there is a mega exodus happening in their parties”.
