‘Fraud, drugs, banned driving’: 5 recent cases heard by magistrates

Fraud and stolen goods

A man was ordered to pay compensation and fined after confessing to fraud and handling stolen goods.

Blane Hill, 22, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had handled a stolen bank card belonging to another man in Bolton on May 28, 2022.

The same day he also committed fraud by false representation by using the bank card.

Hill, of Georgina Court, Bolton also admitted to failing to surrender to police or court bail on May 21 this year in Manchester after being released on bail on November 24 last year.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £14.43, a fine of £180 and costs of £300.

Cannabis

A man was fined after having cannabis on him and driving without insurance.

Michael Armstrong, 49, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had the Class B drug in his possession on October 12 last year in Bolton.

That same day he had also been driving a Ford Focus on Milnthorpe Road, Bolton without proper insurance.

Armstrong, of Lenham Gardens, Bolton, was banned from driving for six months, given six points on his licence and fined £80.

Magistrates also ordered that the cannabis be seized and destroyed.

No insurance

A man was banned from the roads after driving without insurance.

Paul Nguiya, 49, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had driven a Mercedes Sprinter Van on Bridgeman Road, Bolton without insurance.

This was on December 23 last year.

Nguiya, of Newby Road, Bolton, was banned from driving for six months, given six notional penalty points, and fined £440.

Cocaine and cannabis

A man was fined for possession of Class A and B drugs.

Richard Doherty, 38, indicated a guilty plea to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court to possession of cocaine in Bolton on March 19 last year.

He also indicated a guilty plea to possession of cannabis that same day.

Doherty, of Chetwyn Avenue, Bolton was fined £288.

Magistrates also ordered that the drugs be seized and destroyed.

Driving while banned

A man was given a further ban and fined after driving while disqualified and without insurance.

David Fenton, 52, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had driven a Ford Transit Van on the A666 while banned on July 31 this year.

He also admitted that he had been driving without insurance that same day.

Fenton, of Uttley Street, Bolton was given a further ban of 12 months and fined £583.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £233.
