‘Drug driving, cannabis, theft’: Four recent cases heard by magistrates

Drug driving
A man was banned from the roads and fined after drug driving.
Jason Ball, 36, changed his plea to guilty at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court to driving a BMW on Minerva Road, Farnworth while over the legal limit for cannabis on August 1, 2023.
He also admitted to driving without insurance and changed his plea to guilty to driving without a licence, also on August 1, 2023.
Ball, of Sunningdale Drive, Salford, was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £240.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £300 and a surcharge of £96.
Producing cannabis
A man was fined for producing cannabis.
Jamie Mawdsley, 35, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court to producing the Class B drug.
This has been on or before July 7.
Mawdsley, of Maldon Close, Little Lever, was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a surcharge of £32.
Magistrates also ordered that the cannabis be seized and destroyed.
Probation appointments
A man ordered to pay after missing probation office appointments as part of a community order.
Ryan Hilton, 42, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court that he had missed an appointment at Bolton Probation Office on April 3.
He had also missed an appointment at Rochdale Probation Office on August 4 and failed to provide reasonable excuses for missing either appointment.
Hilton, of Walker Street, Rochdale, had been ordered to attend the appointments as part of a community order handed down by Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court on February 27.
He was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £60.
Theft of fish tank
A man was ordered to pay compensation after stealing a custom, handmade fish tank.
Garbor Balog, 60, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates to theft including theft by finding a 3D handmade custom fish tank in Bolton on October 10.
He also admitted to driving without a licence, without insurance and without wearing a seatbelt on October 23.
Balog, of Sandon Street, Bolton was ordered to pay compensation of £300.
He was also banned from driving for six months and fined £120.
