The Criminal Court has sentenced a ride-hailing driver to one month in prison and a 5,000-baht fine for assaulting a Japanese passenger in Bangkok.

The case stemmed from the assault of the 52-year-old passenger during a Bolt ride near Asok intersection on Monday, following a dispute over the fare and traffic. The passenger admitted to swearing and kicking the driver’s seat, while the driver confessed to attacking him after ordering him out of the vehicle.

The court found the 23-year-old defendant guilty of causing bodily harm and related traffic offences.

Administrative charges had earlier been settled with a 3,000-baht fine.

The court suspended the one-month sentence for one year.
