Southern border rail track reopens after bombing

NARATHIWAT – Train services have resumed on the main southern line in Rangae district, following repairs, after it was damaged by a bomb on Saturday night, the State Railway of Thailand said on Tuesday.

The SRT said services between Ma Ru Bo and Tanyong Mat stations resumed at 6.30pm on Monday after security teams guaranteed the safety of repair teams.  It took workers about three hours to restore the track.

The track was among the many targets of violent attacks in southern border provinces on Saturday night. A bomb explosion damaged concrete sleepers, leading the suspension of 10 passenger and freight services between the two stations on Sunday and Monday.

The SRT said passengers who purchased tickets for travel over the damaged section on Sunday and Monday could get refunds.
