Torrential downpour alerts for 24 provinces

Flash floods and inundation are expected across the North, Northeast and East of Thailand through Tuesday, according to the Office of National Water Resources.

The warning was issued on Friday night as a monsoon trough moves across the North and upper Northeast, while a moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, nearby land areas and the Gulf of Thailand.

The weather conditions are expected to bring more rain, including heavy to very heavy downpours, through next week, the office said.

Residents in urban areas prone to inundation, as well as those in areas at risk of flash floods, forest runoff and landslides due to heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, are urged to remain vigilant.

Twenty-four provinces are forecast to be affected: Mae Hong Son, Tak, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phrae, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Chaiyaphum, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Roi Et, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Chanthaburi and Trat.
