Closed town centre bar hopes for ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ with new venue
The Courthouse on Mawdsley Street served what seemed to be its last orders on Monday, May 26 after publicly announcing its closure just last week.
But speaking to The Bolton News, owner Huskey Faldu says he has been in discussions with Bolton Council leader Cllr Nick Peel and is hopeful of a move to a new location.
He said: “We are talking. Everyone at the council, Nick in particular, has been really helpful, and it looks like we’re finally getting somewhere.
“So, it looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The Courthouse closed earlier this week (Image: Newsquest) “Nothing is set in stone but we’re hopeful.”
He added: “At the end of the day, we’re local, I’ve grown up here, there’s all the staff and I don’t want to leave the town.”
Last week the popular bar announced that it was set to close after the building had “changed ownership” meaning that the venue would no longer be viable.
The Courthouse had been a popular town centre venue (Image: Newsquest) This marked the end of The Courthouse’s eight-year occupation of the Grade II listed building, which had previously been run as Harvey’s Café Bar and before that Henry’s Bar.
When the bar was taken over as the Courthouse it underwent a £350,000 refurbishment and proved to be a popular town centre venue ever since.
The bar closed for the last time last Monday and is now empty.

But since then, Mr Faldu said that though nothing was “set in stone” but that working with Bolton Council he had hopes of being able to find a new location.
He said: “I really appreciate the support everyone’s given us, everyone from the customers to the council and yourselves have all been really supportive.”
Cllr Peel says that he hopes to see the bar and restaurant continue at a new home and continue to play a role in the town centre’s economy.
He said: “The council is prepared to facilitate a move to another location in Bolton as part of our food and drink offer in the town centre.”
