Drivers warned of delays as M60 roadworks set to cause more disruption this weekend

Motorists in Greater Manchester are being reminded about roadworks at junction 19 of the M60, near Middleton and Heaton Park, this weekend.

The anti-clockwise carriageway will be reduced to a single lane as part of a £1.3million repair project on a bridge over the River Irk, near the junction 19 exit slip road.

Works started in July, and the scheme includes waterproofing the bridge deck and installing new central reservation barriers to help extend the bridge’s lifespan.

To finish the waterproofing, all but one lane of the anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed this weekend.

Drivers will have to use the exit and entry slip roads at junction 19 to continue along the anti-clockwise motorway.

This diversion will be in place from 6am on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday.

Due to expected congestion, National Highways is advising drivers to avoid this part of the M60 if possible, including those leaving the Etihad Stadium after the Manchester City vs Manchester United match on Sunday evening.

Alternative routes, such as the clockwise M60, are suggested.
