Familiar face steals show as ‘younger and prettier’ Dame takes to the stage in panto

Bolton Panto’s final performance of Beauty and the Beast was held on Saturday (January 3) as the panto season draws to a close.

The performance was the last of their 88-show run, which saw the group sometimes do up to three shows a day.

But performers had one last surprise up their sleeves for their last night… Cllr Andy Morgan in a starring role

Bolton’s former mayor, and now deputy mayor, appeared as a Dame in the production alongside Stephen Sullivan as Dame Betty and Wayne Miller as Silly Billy.

But Cllr Morgan, who was mayor for the 2024/25 year, said he was “clearly the much younger and prettier Dame” of the show at The Victoria Hall.

He said: “The panto was a really enjoyable experience and very much centred around community and bringing people together.

“I was clearly the much younger and prettier Dame opposite the Bolton legend that is Dame Betty which made it even more fun!

“I had a great time taking part, and the reception from both the cast and the audience was incredibly positive and welcoming.

“It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves and supporting local theatre, a really uplifting atmosphere all around.”

Cllr Morgan, of Heaton, Lostock and Chew Moor, thanked the cast and crew for letting him take part and all his friends and family who came out to support him.

He added: “Oh, we did have fun!

“Oh no we didn’t…

“OH YES WE DID!!”
