Police issue update after road taped off for hours

Officers were called to Worcester Street at around 4.30pm on the evening of Saturday, May 24.

The pedestrianised street is just off from Halliwell Road and a police cordon was put on place where it intersects with Back Clyde Street.

The cordon was just metres from the main road and crime scene investigators parked at one side as they inspected the scene.

Investigators stayed to collect evidence until around 9pm – and passer-bys were advised they would have to find another way down the street.

Another police officer arrived at around 8pm to assist them.

Another resident said that they heard “yelling” and saw a fight break out involving a group of people.

There was early speculation that the incident was a result of a confrontation – a fact that police have now confirmed.
