Police nab suspect in 1.9m-baht gold robbery

KHON KAEN: Police have arrested a suspect behind a gold shop robbery in tambon Ban Thum of Muang district, where 26-baht weight of gold necklaces worth about 1.9 million baht were stolen last Sunday.

The suspect, identified only as “Kae”, 48, was tracked down after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and monitored movements in rubber plantations near his residence in Ban Lao Phon Thong.A

Upon his arrest, he led officers to his home, where the stolen gold was found hidden inside a steel column, concealed with straw. His motorcycle, used in the escape, was also recovered after being dumped in a nearby body of water.

Police had earlier offered a 100,000-baht reward for information leading to the arrest.

Pol Maj Gen Noppakao Somanas, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 4, said a crime re-enactment will be conducted before noon on Sunday.
