‘Run down’ Church could be revived and remade as ‘stylish new restaurant’

This comes after plans were put forward to convert the All Saints Ukrainian Church on All Saints Street into a new venue.

The Grade II listed building is currently vacant, with developers saying the proposed new use will help repurpose and redevelop it.

Cllr Richard Silvester, of Queens Park and Central, said: “I very much welcome this planning application to convert this empty and unfortunately run down historic former Church building into a stylish restaurant.

“The proposals as far as I can see maintain the rich heritage of the building and its features will be showcased to customers using the facility.

“The proposals for the inside of the former Church look spectacular and a relaxing ambience will be created.

“I am also pleased that repair works will restore those heritage features which are in dilapidation or have been dismantled on safety grounds such as the front porch which will be re-built in parts, and that matching stone will be used.”

The plans were received and validated by Bolton Council on Friday October 3.

Developers say they plan there will be minimal changes to the outside of the building while the inside will “respect the building’s Gothic Revival character”.

The inside is set to retain features like the pulpit, stained glass windows and aisles.

Cllr Silvester said: “The council’s highways department have said that they do not object to the application as there is adequate parking provision on streets surrounding the building, plus several car parking spaces will be made available within the former churchyard by the removal of some category B trees, one which shows signs of Ash dieback and supplementary tree planting will take place to replace those which have to be removed.

“I also support any trees which have to be removed being replaced and this could be made a condition.

“The proposals will create a much-needed restaurant facility in Bolton town centre from a building which is at risk of becoming derelict, and thus instead making a positive contribution to the economy of the town centre and borough.

“Bolton Council should welcome such investment and proposals as part of its redevelopment strategy for Bolton town centre.”

Bolton Council will aim to decide on whether to approve the bid by Friday November 28.
