‘School aged’ boy caught with suspected Class A drugs and ‘large hunting knife’

Officers say they had been out on an intelligence-led patrol as part of Operation Sceptre in Radcliffe on Tuesday, November 18, when they say the boy acting suspiciously.

They say that after a short chase on foot, they stopped and searched the boy.

They say he was carrying 48 wraps of brown material and 33 wraps of white powder, both suspected of being Class A drugs, with a small amount of cannabis and a large hunting knife.

Inspector Gareth Edwards said: “The individual was acting suspiciously, was of school age and then made off on foot when approached hence the reason for the stop and search.

“We will continue to undertake these proactive operations to make the streets of Bury and Greater Manchester safer for those living or visiting.

“Possession of weapons, especially in these circumstances, to protect the selling of drugs; has no place and operations such as Sceptre demonstrate the value of being visible, having local knowledge and being fearless in making approaches when something isn’t right.”
