Bolton: Investigation continues after town centre robbery

It comes as officers were drafted into Bolton town centre in the past few months in a bid to support security staff and identify hotspots for thieving.

And now Bolton South Police want to reassure the community that everything is being done to combat the issue.

Some of the action to tackle robberies, burglaries and shoplifting has included extra overnight patrols.

A spokesperson for Bolton South Police said: “We are aware of a business burglary that has taken place in Bolton town centre this week.

“Please be reassured that Greater Manchester Police are investigating this, and officers have been conducting mobile patrols in the area at night.

“Many thanks, PC Conlon.”

Since increasing police in the town centre a number of arrests have been made, including people who have been charged for shoplifting and robbery crimes as well as various kinds of anti-social behaviour.

Bolton town centre was previously described as a “no go zone” area last year, which resulted in officers teaming up with licensed premises and carrying out weekly reviews to see what can be done to reduce offences.

In May last year police also launched Operation Overspill after days of violent incidents in Bolton town centre.

Almost 50 arrests were made at the time for a number of crimes, including robbery.

Police have asked for people to report incidents as soon as they can.

Sergeant David Keir, from GMP’s Bolton district, said: “Our operation benefits Bolton two-fold.

“Their new neighbourhood officers quickly acquire new skills, while the problems of shoplifting and other crimes which involve taking without consent theft, robberies, and burglaries, are all directly tackled as a result of the work being done.”

“We have worked closely with stores and local partners to ensure the best work possible is being done for Bolton.
