Bolton: Man broke terms of sexual harm prevention order

Adam Myatt appeared at Bolton Crown Court last April and was given a community order.

The 31-year-old had downloaded indecent images of children but was given a chance by the court and received an order  to last for three years.

As part of this his phone was to be monitored by Esafe to ensure he was complying with the terms of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order which was imposed.

But in November last year he broke the terms of this.

He told a probation officer he had removed the software to talk to strangers who had a sexual interest in children in the hope of obtaining indecent images.

He was  seen in a trolley shelter in Asda on Moss Bank Way by police and questioned after officers were alerted by probation.

Myatt said he had ‘left it (software) down’ after a system update.

He was arrested and Esafe analysed the phone who said he had performed a forced stop of the software.

Later police found messages in an online chat site.

Sophie Kenny, prosecuting, said: “His explanation was that he was conversing with others, hoping that images would be shared.”

Myatt, from Torrington Avenue, Astley Bridge, appeared in court after admitting three breaches of the sexual harm prevention order.

These included removing the software, registering in chat forums without telling police and deleting social media chat rooms.

Colin Buckle, defending, said: “I mitigate on length of sentence only.

“The court believed and hoped for a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

“His own candour and his own honest are leading him to custody today.

“That is unusual.”

He said he hoped that admissions and honesty would make him more receptive to treatment in the future.

Judge Abigail Hudson said: “The community order has not reduced the risk you present.”

She jailed him for 28 months.
