Bolton: People banned after being caught driving after taking cannabis

Under UK traffic laws someone convicted of the offence can expect a one-year ban from the roads, an unlimited fine, a criminal record or even imprisonment for a period of up to six months.

And the following people from Bolton have been penalised in the last two months for driving after consuming the drug.

Daniel Gardner drove a Renault van under the influence of the drug on Chorley Street in September last year.

The 33-year-old admitted this and possession of the drug as well as disqualified driving on the same date Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court.

Following this Gardner, from Moorfield Grove, Bolton, was jailed for a month.

He was also banned from the roads for 24 months.

The court said he had a “flagrant disregard for court orders.”

Ibrahim Kamara drove a Volkswagen on Market Street, Farnworth, while under the influence of the drug in October last year.

The 29-year-old admitted the offence at Tameside Magistrates Court.

Following this he was banned from the road for a year.

Kamara, from Mere Gardens, Bolton, was also fined £276 and ordered to pay costs of £195.

John Harrison drove a Renault on Breightmet Fold Lane in October last year after consuming cannabis.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence at Bolton Magistrates Court.

After this he was banned from the roads for 36 months.

Harrison, from Lenham Gardens, Bolton, was also fined £180 and ordered to pay costs of £133.

James Sopel drove a Volkswagen on Ellesmere Street, Swinton, while under the influence of the drug in September last year.

The 37-year-old admitted this and possession of the drug on the same date at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.

Following this he was banned for a year.

Sopel, from Arnside Grove, Bolton, was also fined £120 and ordered to pay further costs of £133.
