Cyclist dies in crash on roundabout at Trafford Centre

The emergency services were called to Ellesmere Circle at around 5.10pm on August 10.

They established a cyclist, a 58-year-old man, was hit by an HGV on the roundabout close to the Trafford Centre.

He was taken to hospital but his injuries were not survivable and he was declared dead around an hour later.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

Sergeant Phill Collingwood, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a devastating incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who lost his life.

“The accident occurred in the middle of rush hour at a busy roundabout in Trafford Park not far from the Trafford Centre. As such we believe there will be a number of people who have either witnessed the incident or who have dashcam footage of the area at, or around, 5.10pm last night. We would also like to hear from any businesses in the area who have CCTV footage covering the area.”
