Moss Bank Way: Tributes to Bolton mechanic who was ‘always helpful’

James Mitchell died on Tuesday night in a crash.

Colleagues described him as well-known and respected mechanic in Bolton, saying he was “highly thought of”.

Emergency services were called to Moss Bank Way at around 10.50pm on Tuesday night after reports of a crash.

An investigation is now underway into the crash with police launching an appeal for witnesses.

He had worked at a garage on Longson Street.

Dave Richardson worked in the same building as him.

He said: “He was always helpful.

“He has been gone from here for two years.

“There is a lot of shock.

“I found out after someone rang me about it.

“I worked in the same building as him, it was for about 12 months.

“He was highly thought of in the industry.”

The road was closed until the afternoon of the following day between Captains Clough Road and Smithills Dean Road as investigations were carried out by officers.

Police have erected a sign on the road where the collision took place appealing for information.

The sign states that there was a “serious collision” at 10.50pm on June 13 and urges anyone with information to contact GMP on 0161 856 4741.

A police spokesperson said at the time: “A 27-year-old male was travelling along Moss Bank Way between 22:40 and 23:10 when he was involved in a collision on Moss Bank Way, between Captains Clough Road and Halliwell Road.

“Emergency services attended but, sadly, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Anyone with any information about this incident, or any dashcam/CCTV footage from the area at the time, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 4642 of 14/06/2023.”
