Outdoor TREES experience comes to Victoria Square, Bolton

The incredible TREES exhibition has seen six tree stumps installed around Victoria Square while a stunning tree themed backdrop was projected against the town hall.

The tree installations glowed through the night and anyone who took a closure look could see innovative puppet shows played on the inside of each stump.

Jesus Blanco, who helped run the event, said: “What we’re doing here is we want to inspire people and make people think about their connections to trees and mushrooms.

“It also aims to show the connections between trees and mushrooms themselves, which is in a way is what is shown by the puppet shows inside the trees.”

Speaking shortly after the exhibition launched at 4pm, Mr Blanco said he was impressed by how many people in Bolton had braved rainy conditions to come for a look at the trees.

The enchanting atmosphere around Victoria Square was enhanced by the sounds that had been harnessed from electricity coursing through trees, a key part of the show.

Before coming to Victoria Square on Saturday, the TREES exhibition had sprouted up in Smithills Hall on Friday night and will also be travelling elsewhere across the country.

The installation is the latest project by the creative team “Things That Go On Things.”

A passer-by to become enraptured by the trees display was Pio De Cicco, who had been in Bolton town centre on Saturday afternoon.

He said: “Things like this really highlight a lot of different issues around ecology, helping the environment, and spiritually how we connect to trees, how we connect with each other and how we connect to the planet.”

He added: “Society can separate us and so it feels like we’re connected a lot less now but a project like this can really open people’s, especially young people’s minds.

“It really helps young people to image all the possibilities of trees and how we seek to understand the environment.”
