Wedding with a twist: first wife welcomes successor
CHAIYAPHUM – A wedding in this northeastern province has the Thai internet abuzz because the organiser was the groom’s first wife.
The ceremony took place on Friday at a home in Ban Nong Phai with a lively procession of more than 10 vehicles and big bike riders. Yupin Thadthai, the first wife, acted as chief organiser and led the engagement procession to welcome Onuma Chanpheng as the second wife of Witsanu Prangchaiyaphum.
A dowry of 300,000 baht and 5 baht-weight of gold (worth about 350,000 baht) was presented, with the ceremony held at an auspicious time of 9.09am.
Mr Witsanu and Ms Yupin have been married for more than 20 years and have one child. The family said the arrangement was made through mutual understanding.
Mr Witsanu runs a local sound system business, online ventures and entertainment operations in the province. The event drew wide online attention, with reactions ranging from surprise to praise for the family’s openness and harmony.
